The Canada Pension Plan Investment Institute released a study in September of 2026 called Trusted, But Untapped: Canada's Next Competitive Advantage is Investibility.

It’s a fascinating report on investment opportunities in Canada. For example it states that among the eight developed economies surveyed, Canada ranks first for investors’ intentions to maintain or increase their allocations.

And that Canada is the market most associated with policy stability and regulatory predictability—which are two top global capital allocation drivers.

Apparently Canada is an increasingly attractive investment destination and we certainly saw some of that enthusiasm at Canada’s first Investment Summit which attracted world business leaders.  According to the CPP report, responses from 65 global institutional investors suggest they value Canada’s political stability, regulatory predictability and openness to long-term capital.

They also see opportunity in the sectors that will shape the global economy: energy, infrastructure, critical minerals, digital systems and artificial intelligence.

But behind that incredible new buzz are concerns faced by average investors.

Many retail portfolios held by Canadian investors may have concentrated risks within them and the S&P/TSX Composite Index itself is heavily weighted in certain sectors, like financials and energy for example, which means that if you are heavily invested in Canadian balanced funds, you may often duplicate sector risks rather than getting ready for macro-economic shocks.

In short, you may think your portfolios is well diversified to protect you from what’s to come, but it may not be and for these reasons investors need to ask more questions and get to the heart of the matter: Do I have a Turmoil Busting Portfolio, the topic of our conversation today.
